On Wednesday the 16th of October our teacher Lazzereschi took us on a stage in Florence at Syracuse University. It was based on a planned meeting with American students. When we got there, we visited Syracuse’s “campus”: it was very wide and really enchanting, with several students studying but also relaxing in that peaceful place... Later, we went into the building to meet the students in a painted hall, we created some groups together with the American students. An occasion to help us get to know students as we are, from another culture and society. During the stage all of us perceived that most of them appreciated the meeting; and we felt somehow proud of our school that had given us this positive opportunity. We began talking about different themes and it was very interesting to get in touch with their behaviours and different points of view; we noticed the differences between the American school organisation and the Italian one... for example their high school is composed of 4 years and not 5. We perceived a great feeling in the conversation, in fact they spoke in a very self confident way and we tried to improve our English pronunciation.
At lunch time we had lunch in the garden, then we met another group of students; we noticed a great speaking skill because they could speak a very good Italian, so it was easier to understand them. After this second meeting we thanked the students for the great day we had been spending together. Indeed that day was a “full immersion” in the American/English language and not only: some of us has been keeping in touch with some of them and this is really exciting!
